Spring Site Prep: Preparing Your Land for Summer Construction

Getting Ready for Building Season
Spring is the ideal time to start preparing your land for summer construction projects. Whether you're building a new home, adding a pole barn, or installing a large patio, proper site prep is the foundation of a successful build.
1. Initial Clearing and Grubbing
The first step is removing trees, stumps, large rocks, and thick brush from the build site. It's crucial to remove roots entirely (grubbing) to prevent future settling under your foundation.
2. Establishing Access
Before heavy construction equipment can arrive, you need a stable access point. This often involves installing a temporary or permanent gravel driveway base to prevent trucks from sinking into spring mud.
3. Rough Grading and Drainage
Water management must be addressed before construction begins. Rough grading ensures that water flows away from the future building site. This is also the time to install any necessary culverts or preliminary drainage trenches.
4. Topsoil Stripping and Stockpiling
Valuable topsoil shouldn't be wasted or buried under fill dirt. We strip the topsoil from the build area and stockpile it safely on your property to be used later for final landscaping and seeding.
